Welcome to my online gallery and shop...
I am Nick an amateur and part time artist based in the depths of the wonderful county of Lincolnshire in the United Kingdom. Don't tell anyone but the Lincolnshire Wolds are a truly beautiful landscape to explore and paint. Better still practically no-one knows about them. I would love to hear from anyone with an interest in art, painting, oils, watercolour and the great outdoors and hope to get a bit of a community going here online
Send your thoughts, comments and (much) praise to info@nikspaintings.com

The Intrepid Adventurers make an appearance today as they appear on the painting for the first time. Even before the paint is dry here are two pics for you. First, the trial run on a suitable piece of parchment followed by the characters just having been added to the main canvas.

News: Work in Progress...
Tuesday 1st December 2009
New painting in progress capturing the essence of our expanding family and the great adventures we share. The scene depicts a windy day in the back garden as the intrepid adventurers battle the recent winds to climb the slope to our big fir and willow tress.

The initial sketch (above) mapped out the key features as I try to encompass the rise as you travel down the garden to the 'wooded magic garden'. The four adventurers can be seen making steady progress against the prevailing autumnal winds. Youth taking the lead and expereince (well I like to think of old age that way) brinng up the rear.
The intrepid adventurers have yet to be added

'The Light Shearers' (Updated)
Tuesday 1st December 2009
Nearly ready for their first showing! The boys of the 'Light Shearers', led by Colonel Mint are close to their first public showing. Having spent many hours in preparation the first of the daring band of brave sheep are ready to step into the limelight. That's right, after a year or so of 'being to busy' I finally got back in front of a canvas (well five to be honest). There are a series of four based on 'Colonel Mint' and his band of rural heroes and a single depicting the first 'Adventures of Simba'.
Also, another very special portrait is now underway. Previews of this work in progress coming soon...
So watch this space...

Balloon Ride

Back in 2001 this piece sprang into life as I thought of the wonder of the silent adventure up above by balloon and the serene esperiences that must have been enjoyed by some of the the first balloon pilots or Aeronauts. The scene depicts a pair gliding through the skies before a warm sunset.
Trees
Added before December 2009
The two paintings above were painted way back in 2001 and stem from my love of the outdoors and especially trees. I think it is the age and steadfastness in time that draws my interest. Second Sunset, on the right, is a depiction of Dartmoor at sunset. Contrast between the vibrant sky and silhouetted foreground really gives the painting a sense of animation, as if the scene were alive. Tree, on the left, is a fictional piece focusing entirely on the tree perched upon a mound. I often imagine this tree to be a focal point of the locality where people, animals and fairy folk gather.
Wolds in Snow
Added before December 2009
A Panoramic Photograph showing the beautiful snow draped scene I was lucky enough to enjoy one chilly February. The small cottage I used to live in can be just seen off to the left. This photograph is available as a large poster from my CafePress shop...
